Sponsorship Program
Bush Fire Project has established a sponsorship program that is two-fold in purpose. The first is to offer Uganda Family Resource Link some consistent financial support with which to help cover expenses related to caring for these children. While this amount is not sufficient to provide completely for all areas of each child’s care, such as food, clothing, medical care, educational fees/supplies, etc., it does provide a consistent source of income that UFRL can rely on to help meet these important needs. After being deposited into an account with National Heritage Foundation, this money will be given directly to UFRL for the care of the children. The second purpose of the sponsorship program is relational. Our desire is to see sponsors develop a friendship with their child/children at Bush Fire through the exchange of photos and letters. This has proven to be such an important part of the program because of the joy that it brings to the kids to be able to have two-way correspondence with their new friends. For this reason, we strongly urge you to prayerfully consider sponsorship as we are seeking sponsors who desire not only to help financially support a child but who also want to get to know them on a more personal level.

What is the cost?

The cost of sponsorship is $18/month per child. Bush Fire Project was established as a foundation of the National Heritage Foundation, which is responsible for many of the administrative duties of this project. A breakdown of their charges is as follows:

They charge a 2 ½% administrative fee on all contributions.
If you prefer to pay by credit card, there is an additional 3% charge for credit card processing.
There is also the option of setting up electronic funds transfer. If you choose to do this, the cost is the 2 ½% plus an 85 cent transaction fee each month (or per transaction, if you choose to pay quarterly or annually).

After these fees are deducted, the remaining amount goes directly to UFRL for the care of the children. Bush Fire Project does not take any fees from the sponsorship program.

How do I pay?
You may pay by check, credit card or electronic transfer. Payment information will be included in your sponsorship packet.

By check – Please make payable to Bush Fire Project and send to P.O. Box 760, Chattaroy, WA 99003. Please include a note or write the name and I.D. number of the child/children whom you are sponsoring in the memo line.

You have the option of paying monthly ($18), quarterly ($54), or annually ($216). Please have payments in by the 15th of each month. All sponsorship money and other financial contributions will first be deposited into an account for this foundation with National Heritage Foundation then transferred to UFRL.

How will I know how my child is doing?
As a sponsor, you will automatically be placed on our mailing list to receive periodic newsletters so that you can stay informed on what is happening in the Bush Fire Community. Your child will send you occasional letters, which will be sent to Bush Fire Project and forwarded on to you. Many of the children will initially be unable to write, but a house parent, staff member or older child in the home will transcribe their words for them. (Please keep in mind that English is a second language and letter writing is not common in this culture.) Additionally, you will receive prayer requests from your child, as they are made known to us, as well as updated photographs.

Can I write to my child?

Yes. You are encouraged to send letters and a photo of yourself/family to your child. This will help you establish a relationship with your child and allow you to bless them with your prayers and encouragement. He or she will be praying for you too. Please send correspondence to your child to Bush Fire Project at the address below. All letters are forwarded on in bulk at the end of each month. It can take a few weeks for letters to arrive so please plan accordingly if you are sending a birthday or holiday card.

Bush Fire Project - P.O. Box 760, Chattaroy, WA 99003

Letter writing guidelines:

What to include in your letters:
First of all, please be sure to include your child’s full name with all correspondence.
You may wish to tell about your family, what you do for a living, your hobbies or interests, favorite Bible verses, special stories, etc. Please be sure to give words of encouragement to your child including the fact that you are praying for him or her. Tell them how much Jesus loves them.
Some things you may ask your child about include how they are doing in school, their family at Bush Fire, and things they like to do.
You may also send a photo of you or your family and pictures your children have drawn for them.

What NOT to include:
Please do not include your address, phone number or e-mail address in your letters.
Please do not ask troubling questions about the child’s past.

Can I send gifts?

No. Because these children live together as a family, we do not allow the sending of individual gifts. It would cause disappointment and hurt for those children who do not receive anything. For this reason, we also ask that you do not include small trinkets in the letters you send. We do wish to emphasize the importance of exchanging letters with these children as opposed to the giving of gifts. The gift of your friendship and your prayers is of great value and will tremendously bless your sponsored child.

What if I can no longer sponsor my child?
If you are no longer able to make the monthly sponsorship payments, we simply ask that you contact us as soon as possible so that we can find another sponsor for your child.

If you have any further questions or need to contact us for any reason (including change of address, phone or e-mail address), please write to the Bush Fire Project address above or contact us by clicking here.
